What are NYSA Annual Membership Dues?

Eligibility

Any person interested in actively participating in NYSA in order to further the objective of this organization may apply to become a Member, unless otherwise stated.  There are no residency restrictions.

Cost

There is a $55 per family per year membership fee to join the NYSA.  You will only be charged once each Fiscal Year, regardless of how many sports, camps you and your children sign up for.  Read about membership under Article III of the NYSA Bylaws.

Billing

When you sign up for an event online with the NYSA, the membership dues will automatically be added to the cost of registration.  This annual membership is based on the NYSA Fiscal Year.  The Fiscal Year runs from October 1st to September 30th each year, to coincide with the NYSA Fiscal Year.

Refunds

Refunds must be approved by the sports commissioner in the sport in which your athlete is participating in.  If a refund is approved by the sports commissioner, a $10 fee charged on all refunds.  The membership dues are never refundable.  If you signup online for a sport, then decide not to play (for any reason), then the annual dues will not be refunded.

What is my Registration Fee Used For?

The Basics

The first $40 of each registration fee for every sport covers the cost of Insurance, utilities and general operating expenses for the NYSA.

Other Costs

  • Game Officials - referees or umpires
  • Conference or Organizational fees - if the sport is part of a conference or other outside organization, then they pay fees to the league.
  • Equipment - balls, pads, helmets, and other practice or game equipment for the teams
  • Equipment for the fields/courts (nets, goal posts)
  • Uniforms

Fund Raising

The registration fee does not cover the full cost of each sport.  For this reason, the NYSA raises additional funds via:
  • Concessions
  • Middle School Dances
  • Sponsorships
  • Fairs
  • Pre or Post-season games - where parking or entry fees are charged.

Volunteers

The NYSA is non-profit and volunteer-run.  No board member, sport commissioner or coach is compensated.  We ask that parents volunteer each season in some capacity to help keep costs low and to improve the experience for our community.  Opportunities to volunteer can include working concessions, working the chain-gang, keeping the score board, announcing games, field maintenance, park pick-up and empty trash cans, and the list goes on and on.

I'm Registered, what happens next?

The Commissioner

Each sport is run by a volunteer Commissioner.  This person/s is responsible for coordinating game schedules, practice schedules, field maintenance, referees, other volunteers and much, much more!   You can contact your commissioner by visiting our contact page.

Once they have done their due diligence, they will set into motion the process to contact all athletes, usually as follows:

The Process

  • After teams are established, the coach of the team will contact you to introduce themselves.
  • Your coach will be your point of contact for practice times and days, game schedules, pictures and more!

How Can I Get a Refund?

Issuing refunds is at the discretion at the Commissioner of each sport.  To request a refund:

  1.  Visit the contact page to find the commissioner of the sport you're signed up for and email them.
  2.  Once they see your email, they will arrange to have your refund issued.
  3.  If you signed up online, your credit or debit card will be refunded.  If you paid cash or check, you will be mailed a check.
  4.  A $10 fee charged on all refunds.
